The project is supported by <\/span><span class=\"s4\">a grant from the Greenbelt Foundation<\/span><span class=\"s4\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s3\"><span class=\"s4\">This project supports the development of educational material on the ecological significance of the Biosphere and Greenbelt to enhance access to nature and promote Greenbelt sustainable tourism experiences. This one-year project is part of the effort of the Greenbelt Foundation to increase awareness of the importance of its biodiversity to Ontarians.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s3\"><span class=\"s4\">New signag<\/span><span class=\"s4\">e<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> will be added over the fall in a few locations along the<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> Biosphere<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> with QR code<\/span><span class=\"s4\">s <\/span><span class=\"s4\">for trail hikers to learn<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> more about these various locations. The locations have been selected <\/span><span class=\"s4\">by <\/span><span class=\"s4\">the<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> project<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> partners and the information is currently <\/span><span class=\"s4\">being <\/span><span class=\"s4\">designed to be added to the website of the NEBN<\/span><span class=\"s4\">,<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> with links to the partners.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s3\"><span class=\"s4\">Among some of the sites, two will be added at Brock University. The Bruce Trail Conservancy and the Escarpment Biosphere Conservancy have selected five locations such as the Kimbercote\/Allan site in the Beaver Valley. The<\/span><span class=\"s4\">se<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> sites have interesting biodiversity information including the species at risk<\/span><span class=\"s4\">, such as Eastern Meadowlark and American Hart\u2019s-tongue Fern,<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> that can be found in those areas. We <\/span><span class=\"s4\">will <\/span><span class=\"s4\">also attempt in some of the locations to also add cultural features as well. <\/span><span class=\"s4\">I<\/span><span class=\"s4\">n<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> total over nine new signs will be added<\/span><span class=\"s4\">, with the expectation of more in the future<\/span><span class=\"s4\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s3\"><span class=\"s4\">We hope that visitors will be able to learn more about the local biodiversity while enjoying their hikes. <\/span><span class=\"s4\">The NEB has so much to offer!<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s3\"><span class=\"s4\">\u2014<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> \u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s4\">Liette Vasseur<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> is professor of Biological Sciences at <\/span><span class=\"s4\">Brock University<\/span><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Niagara Escarpment Biosphere Network (NEBN) with its partners The Bruce Trail Conservancy, Escarpment Biosphere Conservancy, Royal Botanical Gardens, Niagara College,and Brock University are honored to work together to raise awareness of the importance of biodiversity in the Niagara Escarpment Biosphere.
