{"id":4492,"date":"2023-08-19T17:07:08","date_gmt":"2023-08-19T17:07:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nebn.davidbeyer.ca\/?p=4492"},"modified":"2023-08-21T17:08:34","modified_gmt":"2023-08-21T17:08:34","slug":"bioblitz-of-the-full-length-of-the-niagara-escarpment-biosphere-underway-with-inaturalist","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nebnetwork.org\/fr\/bioblitz-of-the-full-length-of-the-niagara-escarpment-biosphere-underway-with-inaturalist\/","title":{"rendered":"Bioblitz of the full length of the Niagara Escarpment Biosphere underway with iNaturalist"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"s3\"><span class=\"s4\">The Niagara Escarpment Biosphere Network <\/span><span class=\"s4\">(NEBN) <\/span><span class=\"s4\">has the responsibility to manage the Biosphere designation under the Man and Biosphere Programme of the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO<\/span><span class=\"s4\">)<\/span><span class=\"s4\">. <\/span><span class=\"s4\">The NEBN<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> is a network of networks where everyone can be involved. One of its mandates is to monitor and promote conservation of biodiversity. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s3\"><span class=\"s4\">A <\/span><span class=\"s4\">Bioblitz<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> is a<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> great way to <\/span><span class=\"s4\">become <\/span><span class=\"s4\">involve<\/span><span class=\"s4\">et dirig\u00e9<\/span> <span class=\"s4\">in what is now called community<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> science. It is <\/span><span class=\"s4\">a <\/span><span class=\"s4\">free, family-friendly event where citizen scientists explore the campus grounds <\/span><span class=\"s4\">\u2014<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> a UNESCO-designated World Biosphere Reserve at the base of the Niagara escarpment <\/span><span class=\"s4\">\u2014<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> to identify and catalogue bugs, birds, amphibians, <\/span><span class=\"s4\">mammals,<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> and plants. Volunteers come together with the common goal of identifying as many species as possible to create a baseline for researchers and the local community to monitor biodiversity over time.<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> You never know what you <\/span><span class=\"s4\">might<\/span><span class=\"s4\">discover!<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s3\"><span class=\"s4\">The <\/span><span class=\"s4\">NEBN, with the help of Niagara College, partnered with iNaturalist to prepare a <\/span><span class=\"s4\">project called NEBN <\/span><span class=\"s4\">\u2014<\/span> <span class=\"s4\">Biodiversity<\/span><span class=\"s4\">,<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> to add your data. iNaturalist (https:\/\/www.inaturalist.org\/) is an app that can be uploaded to your cellphone. The app can help you identify species, you will be able to record your species and see where you and other participants are along the N<\/span><span class=\"s4\">iagara Escarpment Biosphere<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> and what they have discovered. It\u2019s a wonderful way to learn about your environment and contribute to monitor<\/span><span class=\"s4\">ing<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> what we have around us. <\/span><span class=\"s4\">We are pleased to report that<\/span><span class=\"s4\">at the end of July the number of observations in the <\/span><span class=\"s4\">Biosphere<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> went from an initial 158,000 observations to now having more than 162,000!
